The Science of a Perfect Event

Explore the Science of Events at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. This unique hands-on facility is located in Balboa Park with close proximity to the eye-catching Bea Evenson Fountain. The Fleet is well known for its IMAX Space Theater which features an innovative Dome Screen. This multi-level facility includes seven galleries, with more than 100 interactive exhibits, five diverse event spaces, three meeting rooms equipped with audio/visual capabilities, interactive teambuilding missions and a 300-seat IMAX Dome Theater. With capacity ranging from 10 to 1,000+, the Fleet has the ability to handle any size event, large or small.
Originally built in 1973, this San Diego icon has dedicated itself to educating visitors on the advances in science and technology. Recently, the Fleet has focused their efforts on LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and was recently awarded the City of San Diego’s "Recycler of the Year." In 2007, the Fleet partnered with San Diego Gas & Electric and the City of San Diego to install 10,000 square feet of solar panels on the roof of the facility which generate 100 kilowatts of green electricity for San Diego's power grid.
Known as Southern California's only OMNIMAX Dome Theater, more than half a million visitors travel to our facility from around the world and enjoy stunning IMAX films. The Fleet has an archive of over 25 films, and has provided more than 100,000 hours of IMAX entertainment in the past 35 years. Our OMNIMAX Dome Screen is ideal for lectures, PowerPoint Presentations, Awards Shows and can be utilized during a large event or separately from the facility.
The Fleet also offers interactive activities at our Exploration Bar in our upstairs galleries where guests can create and explore with our exhibit interpreters. Our interpreters help facilitate the learning process and can be added on to any event for additional enjoyment. With several different programs to choose our interpreters can engage your guests with the Science of Magic, Marble Ramps, or even help them take a trip to the Moon in our "Nierman Challenger Learning Center"
At the Fleet, new exhibits are always right around the corner. "Tinkering," which is currently being featured, has a fantastic hands-on studio where your guests can create their own inventions. This exhibit is perfect for innovative teambuilding missions. Arriving this September is the opening of the Fleet's newest exhibit, "Animal Grossology." This high-demand exhibit will cover 5,000 square feet of the Main Gallery with 16 interactive exhibits and tons of informative, fascinating and down right EEEWY fun! Great for animal lovers, this exhibit is sure to be a hit at your next event.
